In this episode of Transform Hawaii Government's (THG) Digital Talk Story series, Executive Director Christine Sakuda speaks with Majority Leader Della Au Belatti about priorities for the 2022 Legislative Session related to IT modernization efforts, success stories of action taken during the pandemic to capitalize on digital transformation opportunities, and the necessity of addressing digital equity for our communities.
Elected in 2006, Representative Della Au Belatti serves District 24 which includes Makiki, Tantalus, Papakolea, McCully, Pawaa, and Manoa. She is the Majority Leader for the State of Hawaii House of Representatives and serves on multiple committees, including Economic Development and Higher Education & Technology.
During this Digital Talk Story, Rep. Belatti emphasized the importance of communication and collaboration as various state departments work to modernize their services and processes. Continuing conversations across leadership will heavily impact the success of coordinated efforts modernization initiatives move forward to improve and increase access to state resources.
Throughout the discussion, a key priority that continues to resurface on our series is the necessity of broadband improvements. With federal funding coming into the state, Rep. Belatti stated that it is important for the legislature to address digital equity in its decision-making process. She highlighted how the Broadband Hui, which THG’s own Christine Sakuda is a member of, is actively engaging in conversations that push forward the message to ensure that all of our communities are provided equal access to internet services.
As we look ahead, Rep. Belatti encourages the public to stay engaged with the legislature during the current session. With the opportunities to make a positive impact and long-term investment in our communities, Rep. invites the community to get involved during the 2022 Legislative Session and make their voices heard.
